The Molecule Formula Mazda Challenge Series, which is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been working on partnering with major sanctioning bodies for months and has finalized dates with the San Francisco Region of the Sports Car Club of America and the Northern California based National Auto Sport Association. "There were many advantages to going with the SCCA & NASA," stated Formula Mazda Challenge Series Administrator Eric McCombs.
"First off, the SCCA testing and entry fees are low, and most of our drivers are already licensed by them. NASA was able to grant special exclusive sessions for the Mazda powered Formula Cars, which was not available through SCCA Club Racing. Both SCCA & NASA events are fully staffed with the support we need to provide a safe and professional racing environment. By working with both entities the FMC will be able to race half of the weekends at Infineon Raceway and compete in a good mixture of events."
After the regular 2008 season ends the Formula Mazda Challenge will once again be administering the 2008-9 Star Mazda Winter Series presented by Standing Start. This is a great way to get started for 2009 if you are a new driver, or working with a new team for the following season. The five race series takes place over three weekends starting in November and ending in January.
