East Coast Region Information

A Letter from East Coast Region Head Bruce Lawrence:
Over the past couple of racing seasons The Speed Connection has been involved in creating a professional racing series for Formula Mazdas. To date there has been over fifty thousand in cash and prizes awarded. The series has bred some very close competition, and great car turnout. We are announcing some changes for this year's series. We have been working together with three other regions across the United States to develop our own race weekends and a national championship.

We will enjoy many returning sponsors as well as some news ones; including Goodyear, Taylor Transmissions and Moses Smith Racing. The 2011 series will feature cash and contingency awards.

Like last year we will again feature races with several different sanctioning bodies to provide our own race groups and true pro weekends. With that flexibility we were able to do something special; a grand prix style standing start exhibition race.

Southwest Region Information
The Southwest Series began in 1998 and continues to grow each year. It is designed to offer FM drivers a season-long competition with year-end rewards. The Series races are held mostly at local club racing events. Generally, two Series races are held each Series race weekend (Saturday and Sunday). There are only seven (7) Series race weekends spread out over 7-8 months. This helps to eliminate excessive travel. Competitors in the Series range from 16 to 65 years in age. Some are looking for careers and some are just looking for excitement and fun. At the conclusion of the season, the Southwest Formula Mazda Series holds an awards banquet to distribute trophies, cash, and prizes to the Top Ten Finishers in the Series. Also recognized is the Rookie of the Year and the Masters Champion (45 yrs and older).
